Today I’m excited to introduce Out-Of-Pocket headhunting. This is an experiment we’re running that’s a headhunting lite model.

The people who read Out-Of-Pocket, come to our events, etc. all tend to be high performers by nature of the fact that everything we do is focused on learning outside of work. Turns out these tend to be people who are also good at their jobs.

Companies have been asking me since the dawn of OOP for help hiring and who we know that’s actually good. Today we’re excited to launch a product that does that.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Candidates in our network that we vetted fill out a profile with questions you won't find on a resume. They stay anonymous in the database.
  2. You subscribe ($150/mo) which includes access to the full candidate database. We highlight one person each week to you in a newsletter, but you can see everyone.
  3. See a profile you want to talk to? Pitch your company and the role, and request an intro.
  4. If the candidate says yes, we connect you and you talk directly about interviewing.
  5. You only pay an additional placement fee if you actually hire (15% of base salary)

If you’re looking to hire you should sign up to be a founding member, which we’re limiting to 10 companies right now. We’re building up the database and ironing out the kinks, but we already have a few engineers, data analysts/scientists, technical PMs, senior ops folks, and more.

Just to explicitly explain what we’re solving for:

  • I’ve never felt good about telling people in my network to join companies that I haven’t vetted myself. In this case the company needs to make a compelling pitch to candidates on why they should join. But we can guide them to good people who are high intent about switching jobs.
  • It’s clear that employers are getting bombarded with tons of applications and struggle to figure out who’s good or not. We filter down to the people that are good.
  • Really good people want to see what’s out there but also don’t have the time to be doing the networking circuit to figure that out.

This is an experiment. It won’t be a good fit for every company, but we think we can connect some really great people to awesome companies. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, why not give it a shot.

If you’re a candidate thinking about your next role, you should fill out the form for candidates. Currently we’re only accepting people we know or have been to an OOP event/power readers and responders of the newsletter, but if it’s a really good application we’ll reach out to get to know you!

Knowledgefest is ripping

Knowledgefest is our conference focused on healthcare ops and building. It’s one of my favorite events we do, just getting 100 healthcare builders together to learn playbooks, getting perspective on their problems, cry?

If you are clinical ops, regular ops, product that’s secretly ops, and you have 2+ years experience in healthcare you should be here.

We’re talking forward deployed ops, upskilling ops teammates, how to build a care model under ACCESS (is anyone doing this well? For real, come give that talk).

If this sounds up your alley, join us in SF 10/17. You’ll meet the best ops people in healthcare.

What’s that? A conference that looks FUN about HEALTHCARE OPS??? Only we could do it

FREEEEE courses! And a not free one

  • FHIR 101 with Redox, Aug 25-27 - Get FHIRed up!!!! About technical standards!!! Alright well, it’s genuinely gonna be fun and the Redox team is going to teach you everything you need to know about building with this old yet new technical standard. Even if you’re not technical, and it’s free! Why not??? You’re not doing anything in August.
  • Value-Based Care 301 with Navina, Sept 15-17 - Is value-based care more or less attractive nowadays? We’ll discuss that in our course with Navina + how to think about contracting, tech stack, operations (e.g. referral management), and more. We always have a spicy chat in these sessions, and again it’s free. We’re just that generous

And finally...

Healthcare 101 Crash Course, next cohort Sept 21 - Oct 2, $1,200. The basics of US healthcare in plain english: who tf are all these stakeholders, how the money actually moves, and fun trends in the space. Hit me up for group discounts, or cause you’re lonely and just want someone to talk to.

Imagine being so excited about bundled payments you stay awake.

Meme Tax, thank you

Hope you’re excited about some of the stuff we’re doing, as always if you think there are interesting ways we can partner you can hit me up or learn more about our sponsorship options.

And for the rest of you...hope this doesn’t hurt.

Quick Interlude - “Am I a fit for Knowledgefest?”

See All Courses →

Based on the questions I’m getting about Knowledgefest, I’m doing a really bad job explaining who should come.

The conference is for anyone building in healthcare.

  • It is not specific to companies delivering patient care - Lots of people at software only, insurance, etc are coming.
  • Any size of company can come - We have two person just out of YC companies, people that run ops at clinics, to F500 companies.
  • You can be any role - Almost every role touches ops in some way. Product, founders, clinical, etc. should definitely come.

You should apply if you’re not sure, and we’ll let you know :)
